Banks to recruit 56,500 people over next six months

Public sector banks (PSB) in India will recruit over 56,500 personnel in the next six months in the highest ever recruitment drive by the banking industry in more than a decade as business grows and the threat of new banks looms as the Reserve Bank of India plans to issue new licenses soon.

The IBPS, which is in charge of conducting common written exam and common interview for nationalized banks, said 20 nationalized banks excluding State Bank of India will hire 22415 officers and 32453 clerks. The State Bank of India (SBI) will alone hire 1500 officers. Public Sector banks are recruiting in this large number for branch expansion and fill the gap created by retirement and attrition.
