Common Interview likely after Common Written Exams for Jobs in Banking Sector

Common Interview likely after a Common Written Exams.

Few days ago, we have published an article where we have informed that concerned authorities are working to solve Multiple Selection Issues and working to simplify the recruitment process. And recently, an article published on LiveMint provided information about Common Interview after Common Written Examinations (CWE) for Jobs in Banking Sector in India.

Candidates appearing for the Common Written Examinations (CWE) may soon have to go through only one common interview to land a bank job in India.

The finance ministry, in consultation with participating state-owned banks in Common Written Exams (CWE) conducted  by Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS), is considering a centralized interview for all candidates who clear the common written exam, a move that is expected to benefit lakhs of candidates who appear in common written examinations.

A common interview will help both banks and candidates by simplifying the recruitment process further and reducing the time involved in the selection process. Currently 19 nationalized bank excluding State Bank of India and it’s associates recruits through CWE and candidates have to appear in multiple interviews to get a job.

The public sector banks in India require around 10,000 clerical staff and an equal number of probationary officers in the current fiscal.

LiveMint quoted a finance ministry officials who did not want to be identified said the following – “We are talking with banks for a centralized system for interviews. Candidates will have to attend one common interview, which will be conducted by bank officers with the help of outside experts, a final merit list will be released after which candidates will be given an option to choose the banks as per merit. It will (also) reduce the trauma for students as many clear the written exam but are never called for interviews.”

In the present recruitment process, almost 70% of candidates who clear the CWE do not get called for an Interview.

The IBPS conducts a CWE twice a year for 19 state-owned banks for the recruitment of probationary officers, clerks and one CWE for state-owned bank for the recruitment of Specialist Officer. Candidates are assigned a CWE Score Card which is valid for one year from the date of issue. The candidates then have to appear for an interview in banks if they meet the cut-offs prescribed by the banks.

The present recruitment process has been facing the problem of multiple selection since the first IBPS CWE Exam. A candidate with a good score applies in multiple banks and appears for interviews conducted by them. But in the end when a candidate gets through four or five banks, he chooses one bank. Because of this, banks are unable to fill up their vacancies.

The finance ministry has held preliminary discussions with the banks that have approved the plan in principle. The details will be finalized after discussions with participating banks, said the finance ministry official.

The ministry is also looking to standardize the educational qualifications required.

“The education qualification required to appear in the IBPS exam is that of a graduate but banks have different educational criteria,” the finance ministry official said. “Because of this, even students who clear the exam and get a score may not be eligible to apply to any bank. To solve this problem, we are looking to align the educational qualification of the examination with that required by banks,” he said.

The official added that the uniform education qualification for those applying for a clerical post could be a graduate degree while it could be a graduate degree with at least 55% marks for those applying to the post of probationary officer.

  11. Ramana Polachi says:

    ya good decision sir ji….

  12. the idea of common interview is quite good for solving multiple selection issue………BUT if any candidate fails in that particular interview than all 19 slips from his hands even after performing well in CWE.

  13. Maurya Deenanath says:

Bad news for those who score less then d 55%.
At-least they must have chance 2 appear in Exam & Interview. rest is on performance.

If not all the universities from India must have change the passing mark from 35% to 55% compulsorily.

    • ya really , students should be given chancen to  sit in written amd interview and rest should be left on performance…. govt is unneccesarily complicating the things? what the student with less than 55 % or 50% marks are going to do?

    • there shouold a change ….but if all the students are allowed then it would lead to a mesh again…..but the idea of a common interview might work….if it is successful india could fill up its vacancies very easily..but none of the bank would love to have low scoring guys as its employee….so it would again cause a rival..

      • i don’t think so banks hv to choose low scoring guy. its upto  candidate to choose the bank.  all process is like  counselling of engineering  and management colleges

  14. welcome for the reforms……
    must needed….

  15.  When the common  interview will be implemented

  16. i hv qualified ibps po 2012. but till this date score card  and regarding common interview not intimated by IBPS. Pl inform.
