Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the central banking authority of India, on March 27, 2014 extended deadline for implementation of Basel III Capital Regulations in India by a year to March 2019 on concerns of potential stresses on the asset quality and profitability of the banks.
RBI has also revised deadline for for meeting Minimum Common Equity Tier 1 and Capital conservation buffer (CCB).
Basel III was supposed to strengthen bank capital requirements by increasing bank liquidity and decreasing bank leverage. The global deadline to meet Basel III guideline is 31 March 2019.
