Nehchal Sandhu appointed as Deputy National Security Advisor

Outgoing Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director Nehchal Sandhu appointed as Deputy National Security Advisor.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of 61-year-old Nehchal Sandhu, a 1973 batch IPS officer of Bihar cadre, presently holding the post of Director (IB), in NSCS in the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India for a period of three years with effect from the date of his superannuation (31.12.2012) as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in National Security Council Secretariat, a government body to assist in internal security related matters.

He will also take over as Deputy National Security Adviser and Secretary in NSCS from March 21 next year. His appointment would be on re-employment on contract, initially as Officer on Special Duty until the expiry of the term of the current incumbent, Ms. Vijaya Latha Reddy, a 1975 batch IFS officer,(20.03.2013) and as Deputy National Security Adviser and Secretary, National Security Council Secretariat, thereafter.
