New Delhi, Aug 14: Vilasrao Deshmukh died due to multiple organ failure. Union minister and former Maharashtra chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh passes away. Union minister and former Maharashtra chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, who has been battling liver cancer in a city hospital, died here on Tuesday afternoon. He was 67.
He was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai for a liver-related ailment and had been “critical” for weeks now. According to reports he died of multiple-organ failure as a kidney for tansplant could not be obtained in time. The 67-year-old Deshmukh was under treatment at Global Hospitals, Chennai.
A team of doctors of several specialities, including noted liver transplant surgeon Dr Mohamed Rela, was attending on Deshmukh, who was on life-support system in the Intensive Care Unit.
Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned for the day as a mark of respect to Deshmukh.
